We've known for years that you greatly increase your chances for success when you can see it in your mind's eye. For some, this is quite easy. Athletes, for example, can spend hours teaching themselves to see them making a point, going over a bar, or perfectly executing a routine that they have done hundreds of times before. But, in business, success is seldom this cut and dried. What does success look like to you?
One of the problems with visualizing success in business is that the perception of it is different for almost every business person. In other words, what I consider to be success is probably dissimilar to yours. Not only that, but there are different degrees of what each of us accepts as successful. For example, it's unlikely that we'll both agree on the size of the turnover our companies should have, even if we're in the same industry.
Given this disparity, how can we visual success for us?
Well, that's the key. You have to decide what it is.
Here are five principles that will help you to visualize the success that you want.
1. Be sure it's relevant to what you do.
It's easy to choose the wrong thing. Some people visualize the car they want, or the house they want to buy. These things have nothing to do with the business.
2. Be specific
The more specific the picture, the easier it will be to see it. For example, let's say that you want to create a new product. What will that product do? What problem will it solve? How will it save customers time and money?
3. Set targets that stretch you, but which you are positive you can reach.
It's much more sensible to set smaller goals that you know you can reach in the short term than it is to aspire to longer term ones that you're unsure about. Remember that the overall objective is to visualize what success will look like, because that will help you to see the path to it.
4. Focus on the next step you know you need to accomplish your next objective.
Many people fail to start because they don't think they know all of the steps in advance. The truth is that you don't need to know them. You only need to know what to do next. Do that first, and in the course of doing so, you'll discover what to do after that.
5. Imagine how you'll feel when you achieve your goals
Emotion is a powerful force for action. When you actually feel successful, you'll find that you suddenly have the motivation to take you there.

Branding Your Business With a Logo

Branding your company is an important part of building a business and should be included in every business plan. The very first thing you have to decide on is the name of your business. This decision usually depends on a lot of things, but mostly it depends on the industry your business is in. For example if you are in the film production industry you usually will involve the word "productions". This is pretty standard for the film industry.
Once you have established your business name, the next objective is to brand that name. With a logo. In the beginning logos were just your business name in a fancy font. As things evolved people started using the first and second letters of their business as a symbol, and easier way to recognize a company. Today this practice is still around but things have moved toward an icon or graphic as a representation of a business. After all logos are a visual element so if you build up your brand big enough you can just stamp a graphic on anything and everyone will recognize it eve if your business name is not attached. And a more evolving occurrence is web designers establishing icons for specific brands that start getting associated with a brand or business. Facebook is a good example. The "f" in a blue box is on most of every website you see now-a-days. This is strictly a web format that has been adopted by website owners.
Logos creation and costs are all across the board. If it is a trademark logo that will become an iconic business then you can expect to pay a pretty penny for it. But most small businesses don't even bother with the trademark process, it costs around $300 to trademark a logo. It is a fairly easy process but most smaller businesses don't want to deal with the paper work or shell out an additional $300 to pay for the process. And for a lot of virtual business, business owners who strictly operate via the web. Whether it is a website or selling on a third party platform, well their logo isn't really going to be used for big advertisement purposes, so the process of trademark is very much over kill.
Whether you decide on trademark or not, your logo is what brands the rest of your business. Your website, any print material you use, business cards, letter heads, the whole works. It is the most vital part of a business, and the better your logo the more professional impression you will give to potential clients or customers.

The Role of Plastic Point of Purchase Displays

When you walk into a store, you would invariably notice an attractive product or service display port at or near the billing counter. These devices, which aim to encourage consumer purchases, are referred to as plastic point of purchase displays.
Often, these devices are considered to be appealing tools in promoting impulsive or last-minute buying behavior. However, in order to use them to their full potential, they need to strategically placed so as to catch the attention of customers and entice them to learn more about a product or service. These devices are also known by some other common names such as end caps, kiosks and point of sale displays. For instance, you might often see candy packets or utility items being placed on billing counters. And, you might also notice that people tend to pick up these items as they stand in line for billing.
Plastic point of purchase displays need to have certain features in order for them to be appealing to customers. Lets discuss a few of them:
  • The POP displays need to engage with the customers enough to motivate them to pay attention to the kiosk or rack.
  • The colors, graphics and text that is used on these devices should all merge together to form a uniform communication design. A highly loud or exceedingly understated design will not work in most cases.
  • Apart from simply plastics, other materials are often used these days. For instance, acrylic is a preferred material as it allows great colors, easy fabrication and a multi dimensional effect for your displays.
  • In many cases, plastics and acrylic might also be fused with metals, glass, wood or other materials. What really matters is that the end result should come together to form an aesthetic device.
  • Integration and use of several other services such as screen printing, digital printing, and laser cutting help you create plastic point of purchase displays that stand out from the crowd in a retail environment.
  • While idealization is critical, the implementation and installation of these devices is equally vital. This is one task that best left to the professionals. There are several firms that offer different types of in-store merchandising solutions.
In many cases, these displays are combined with light effects to increase their overall appeal. The diffusers are often drape formed or cold bent to achieve different effects. Whether you are a retail store or a food joint, you stand to benefit with the use of plastic point of purchase displays. Since this device can greatly influence buyer behavior, manufacturers often cannot afford to go wrong with this display option. To sum it up, the overall look and feel of this device is just as important as its placement in the retail outlet.

Iyashi is a special genre only found within anime (Japanese animation). The word Iyashi means "soothing" or "healing". The Iyashi genre feature anime series that enable the viewer to feel more relaxed and positive. The main traits that distinguish the Iyashi genre from other anime genres are:
  • A quiet and slow music score: The music of Iyashi anime helps the viewer become more relaxed.

  • A positive view on society and human interaction: Characters in Iyashi series tend to be optimistic and carefree. Their light, yet charming, conversations have the tendency to make the viewer feel better and more confident.

  • A sheltered environment: All Iyashi series occur in a sheltered environment, where characters are free from harm or danger. This makes their carefree life more believable and also allows the viewer to immerse himself/herself in the series' world.

  • A focus on aesthetics: Iyashi series focus on the beauty and aesthetics of things. For example, an episode might focus exclusively on traveling at sea or exploring a traditional city. The focus on aesthetics enables the viewer to appreciate his/her surroundings more and makes his/her viewing experience more refined.
The first Iyashi series is called Aria the Animation and was broadcasted in Japan during late 2005. It tells the story of Mizunashi Akari - a woman who wished to become an undine (gondolier) and trains daily in the waters surrounding the city of Neo Venezia (a futuristic copy of Venezia created on Mars). The anime was based on a manga called Aria and expended upon it greatly. The qualities of Iyashi are present in the series' invigorating background music, Akari's optimistic personality, the sheltered environment that is Neo Venezia and the miniature details Akari learns about the city in order to become a better undine.
Other series in the Iyashi genre include Bartender, Sketchbook: Full Color`s and Tamayura.
Bartender follows a bartender who attends the many requests of his patrons. The series uses the relaxed atmosphere of the bar to slow the passage of time while the bartender himself is a warm and intelligent figure. Bartender uses the romantic qualities that surround famous liquors to both impress and educate the viewer.
Sketchbook: Full Color's follows a high school student named Kajiwara Sora. Sora suffers from a mild case of autism and as a result sees the world in a much more peaceful and stationary way than others. Sora is a member of the art club and the series makes extensive use of nature paintings.
Tamayura follows a high school girl named Sawatari Fuu. Fuu wants to become a photographer and spends her days trying to catch the natural beauty of both nature and the human spirit.
Albeit still being rare Iyashi series are very distinct. As the above examples show Iyashi series incorporate within them prominent aspects of the Japanese culture such as the Japanese respect for nature and appreciation of aesthetic qualities.

Wooden letters are a traditional favorite that are always modern and attractive. Wooden letters are smooth and substantial, giving the look of polished refinery. Wood is a natural substance, which is finished with a clear varnish or paint. They look great in traditional settings. Wood letters give an appearance of tradition. Whether your business is old or new, these routed letters cue your client into thinking that your business has been around for at least a few generations and will be around for generations to come!
Wooden letters look great as professional office signs. Many lawyers, accountants and other professional individuals choose the upscale presentation of wood letters. They tell customers that they are a serious firm, one that has history, and that will be around for years to come. Perhaps it is a psychological response, but wood infers stability.
Wood is one of the last types of natural, porous materials being used. With synthetics making a very plausible substitute material for most products, it is nice to know that wood letters are still being widely used.
Wood letters are attractive and nice to touch. They are routed then sanded and finished; they bring to my mind happy moments of playing with wooden toys and rocking horses during childhood. The feel of a wooden toy is a soothing one, like sand through the fingers. The feel of wooden letters is a comforting one, and the visual impact of wood is also a mentally soothing one. It is truly amazing how such a tiny detail can make such a huge impact.
As time goes on, wood letters retain their dignity and class. They may be varnished for a deep shine or they may be painted in bright clear colors, like painted blocks that children use in primary school. The unmistakable attraction of these letters is hard to deny.
Wooden letters can be small, large, convex or flat. These dimensional letters can be done in block type or they can be carved in cursive text as well. Wood dimensional letters can be hung on a sign post if a proper background is created. They may be mounted onto a flat surface and surrounded by a frame type design to highlight the lettering even more. There are many approaches to sign design using wood letters. Perhaps there are still more which haven't been invented yet!
Letters made from wood are also durable. By using a moisture-resistant finish, natural humidity can be blocked out and the letters will be in good shape for years to come. This is one of the benefits of wood. The letters are qualitative and classy, AND they are protected from the rain, snow and mist of early morning dew.
Wood letters can be a nice attractive look for your family business or even beautify your home. These letters look good mounted directly on the wall in block or fanciful semi-script styles. Another style you may not have thought of is to individually hang each of the letters on a pretty strand of ribbon and tie it in a bow, secured with a nail. The applications for wood are varied, and the finishing is also something that can be expanded upon.
Clear or dark wood varnish show the wood's natural intonations and grain, which is very lovely to see. If you aren't so excited about the natural color of wood and would like to liven things up with a fresh color, there is a rainbow of colors to choose from. The letters can be all one color or a combination of primary, secondary or pastels. The choice is yours.
When it comes to wooden letters, you really can't go wrong. Mounted or hanging, for home or business, the look is universally appealing and the result is always the same - increased notoriety, long-lasting beauty and great value.

Isn't technology wonderful? In seconds, you can Google just about any type of information your heart desires. Want to know where the closest Chinese restaurant is, let me just check the Urban Spoon app on my phone. Want to tell your friends about the latest movie you just saw, post it on your Facebook page. Yes, these digital devices have provided a whole new way of life for society. But is it for the better? Not necessarily.
As marketers, we vie for the attention of our customers all the time to capture marketshare. Now we compete against another major distraction... digital technology. Let's face it, we all are distracted by something - TV, our kids, work, and yes, our mobile smart phones. I for one am just as taken with my iPhone and iPad as the next person. I love these devices and find myself focusing on new things I can do with them all the time. And I'm in my 50s. So what does that tell you about people younger than 30 who have never known a world where there has not been an internet.
As wonderful as technology has become in our lives, it also has had a deteriorating effect on social etiquettes. Does it bug you when someone takes a call from their cell phone right as you were getting ready to say something to them? It does me. And this happens more often than not... we seem to have become blind to social etiquettes and politeness.
This type of behavior is not only rude, it is a real stumbling block when we try to make a connection through traditional marketing mediums. If their own friends and family cannot hold their attention, how can an advertiser?
The gadget generation is even more prone to this phenomenon. They just can't stop fidgeting with their devices. They are multi-taskers, they will check e-mail while trying to carry a conversation with you at dinner, all the while listening to their favorite music through earbuds. My own daughter is no stranger to this... she'll do homework, watch TV and surf the web, all at the same time.
The younger generation lives through their phones. Have you ever noticed a group of young people walking down the street together? Many of them with their heads down staring into the little colorful screens of their phones instead of interacting with one another. They cannot wait until something new comes on the scene. They are also the most skeptical generation. It takes a lot to sway this demographic and even harder to hold them as a long time customer. They thrive on change. This is the way this generation rolls.
Multi-tasking in itself is not new. However, bear in mind that when your attention is divided, it is difficult to completely devote yourself to the present moment. Multi-taskers also have difficulty judging the emotions of others.
Often times, this generation dislikes face-to-face communication. They prefer texting, posting Facebook messages, or the old stand by, e-mail when communicating with one another. Hence the rise of social media. In a majority of cases, their only news comes by way of the internet or Facebook. This generation does not read the newspaper or watch the nightly news on TV. This is severely limiting in my opinion.
What would happen if we took away technology for 2 days? A professor at Loyola University in Chicago did just that. What she discovered was that many of her students were left feeling anxious and depressed without having access to the internet through a computer or phone. 48 hours without Facebook was torture to them.
Can you go 48 hours without the use of technology? It is so engrained into the fabric of our lives today, that even the most "unplugged" American may find it difficult to go 2 days without being touched in some way by technology. As advertisers, it is our job to use this medium responsibly to connect with our audience and to build trust. With all that is available at your fingertips... this is becoming more challenging, if not an impossible task.
I'm turning off my cell phone now... write me letter if you want to get a hold of me.

Advertisements
The first, and most predictable, way a copywriter can advertise for your business is through writing an ad for you. A copywriter knows how to word the ad so that people want your product or services. When doing this, you'll meet with your copywriter, or talk with them on the phone about what the message of your business is, and the most important aspects of it. Your copywriter will then take that information and use it to write a creative and compelling advertisement for you.
Press Releases
The second way a copywriter can advertise for you is through a press release. Your copywriter will write an article about your business and submit it to your local newspaper. The reason for the press release could be any number of things. It could be that you have just started your business, and the article will be announcing your grand opening. It will include information about you as the business owner, your products and/or services, and other important information that will paint your business in a positive light to prospective customers. Or maybe you've already been in business for a while, but you're offering new products or services. Or maybe you're celebrating an important anniversary. You could have a new staff member that is an important asset to your business. Any number of things could be an excellent reason for a press release.
Newsletters
Another thing a copywriter can do for you is to write weekly or monthly newsletters for you to send out, either through traditional mail or email. This is a very effective way to gain new customers, as well as remind your current customers of your business so that they continue to come to you when they need your products or services. Your copywriter will help you think of things that are newsworthy for your newsletter, and then will write it in a way that is personal, entertaining and informational.
Sales Letters
Sales letters is another way to bring business to you. These are great to send out in the mail to people who don't already use your business. Your copywriter will write the letters in such a way that is informative and very persuasive so that those reading the letter will want to take action immediately.
Articles
Yet another way a copywriter can help you is through articles. Your copywriter will write an article and submit it to a local magazine. Like other forms of advertising, the article will be filled with useful information pertaining to your business, and will recommend that the reader visit your business to solve their problems.
The Perfect Combination
It is probably evident to you all the ways a copywriter can advertise for you and get results for your business. Hiring your own personal copywriter is the best option because over time, they will get to know you and your company better, and will then the advertising they do for you will get even better over time. It's best to utilize your copywriter to do a combination of all the above methods of advertising for best results.

All over the world, people are breaking free from the traditional employment model and choosing to achieve business success as entrepreneurs. Will you be the next?
Let's start by covering 12 of the most commonly-mentioned benefits of being an entrepreneur to inspire you on your journey:
1. You can choose your own schedule.
2. You are free to travel.
3. You can take sick days or vacation days whenever you need them.
4. If there are necessary tasks you don't enjoy or have time for, you can outsource them.
5. You can select your own employees.
6. Learning to be a better boss also teaches you to be a better employee.
7. Your innovative ideas have a chance to shine unfettered.
8. You do not have to wear a uniform or follow a company dress code.
9. You enjoy better job security than most people.
10. Entrepreneurship teaches you the benefits of hard work.
11. You can always feed your curiosity by learning more about every aspect of your business.
12. Your ambition can always drive you to greater heights and business success.
As you can see, entrepreneurship is becoming popular because it comes with a whole new lifestyle for those who are willing to seize it.
Of course, entrepreneurship isn't all sunshine and freedom. According to the United States Small Business Association, a third of small businesses fail within the first two years, and more than half fail within the first five years.
Not surprisingly, the challenges of entrepreneurship represent the flipside of the advantages we discussed above:
1. Choosing your own schedule can result in wasted time without the proper time-management skills.
2. Even while traveling, it may be necessary to handle work-related crises, because you are basically always "on call."
3. There are no paid sick days or vacation days, so you must decide how much each day off is worth to you.
4. You are responsible for completing any tasks you can't afford to outsource.
5. Hiring employees means you must learn how to conduct interviews, uphold workers' legal rights, and coordinate payroll.
6. If you don't yet have the leadership capabilities to direct others, you will be taking a crash course once you hire freelancers or employees.
7. You must narrow all of your innovative ideas down to the ones that have the most potential to help you achieve business success.
8. If you don't maintain a professional appearance in person and online, it is sure to reflect poorly on your company.
9. You are responsible for funding your business, even if you're operating at a loss.
10. Only results are profitable, not time clocked, so it's possible you will work hard and still end up disappointed.
11. You must be familiar with each aspect of how your business operates, including those which may not interest you, to ensure everything is running smoothly.
12. Only you can motivate yourself to achieve business success.
To sum it up, let's say that with freedom comes responsibility. If you can't handle one, you aren't yet ready for the other.
Of course, I don't believe people should give up on their dreams. Just be sure to arm yourself with knowledge and understand what you are getting yourself into.
