The Subtle Lures of Great Trade Show Displays

Expert Author Chris A. Harmen
These days, pulling potential customers to your trade show exhibit is no easy task. As people pass by your display, you have only a few sections to capture their interest amid the cacophony of lights, sounds and crowded aisles that are part of every large marketing event.
Trade show displays that gather a crowd will have some ingenious aspects that draw people to them on both a conscious and even unconscious level. With a little extra imagination and willingness to step away from the ordinary, you can have the same.
Think Round And Open Trade Show Displays
Modern Western culture has an affinity for perpendicular angles. It's the basis for our homes, our office buildings, our land plots, and many of our roadways. Consequently, standard trade show displays are generally square or rectangular.
Now consider how you'd stand out from the competition if your exhibit had curves. Something as simple as a round, 360 degree banner and a round or oval table will make people notice you and consider that perhaps you have something innovate they need to investigate. A round table also allows for easier flow as people view your products or demonstrations.
For an even bolder look, skip the walls in your exhibit and create an open display. In addition to being eye-catching and different, people have more room to maneuver and you have the space for additional, dynamic advertising that's not limited by walls or a square space.
Employ The Third Dimension
We often forget that trade show displays can utilize space above them as well as the space on the exhibit floor. If the building code allows for it, hang a banner or some other promotional materials from the ceiling above your display. Studies show that looking up can produce feelings of curiosity and amazement which will make people want to know more about your company.
Capitalize On Colors
It's been proven that looking at colors will affect people's emotions in different ways. This subtle communication technique is great for creating a certain mood in show attendees so they more readily and easily connect with your message.
What follows is a very brief description of what each color represents. Incorporate a color or colors into your graphics and overall display design based on your goals for the trade show.
• Red Inspires passion, excitement, danger and fierceness; best for border areas
• Orange Creates energy and enthusiasm; too much can overwhelm your prospects
• Yellow A very happy color but also can represent caution
• Green This is the color of revitalization and recreation that helps people feel at ease
• Blue A calming color, too much of which creates a sense of sadness
• Purple Represents old-world nobility and majesty; not a popular color today
• White Speaks of purity and organization
• Black Some think this color is classy, but it actually creates feelings of emptiness and negativity
Interactive Concepts
These are only limited by the imagination of your or your trade show team. Some very effective ideas have included a classic video games contest, a clear-sided safe with an expensive prize inside that can be won by whoever guesses the correct code, and free massages. A relatively new idea is setting up an oxygen bar at your booth that's customized with your message and/or logo where attendees spend a few minutes getting refreshed.
However you choose to get people to notice you, remember that the goal is to get the person's information so you can make your pitch then and there or follow up later, and that a bit of innovative thinking can generate prospects time after time.

All too often, in today's convention arena, business owners exhibit their booths and stands but overlook the importance that accessory items can play in comprehensive trade show displays. Does your business own or rent customized trade show displays, but still isn't getting the crowd traffic you were expecting during any given event? You may be a perfect candidate for a booth accessory makeover.
Which Event Accessories Make Sense For Your Trade Show Displays?
Of course, recognizing that your trade show displays could use a little auxiliary enticement to add an extra visual punch is just the first step to optimal event success. Knowing some of the accessories available and some tips on using them can help your business quickly identify what ones make the most sense for your company's trade show displays. Some popular items that will not only spruce up your trade show displays, but also deliver a significant return on overall investment (aka uptick in visitor traffic!) include:
Banner stands: Customized banner stands offer business owners a portable, inexpensive way to enhance their existing exhibits. Not only will they complement your current booth's look, color scheme and branding approach, but these lightweight signs can be strategically placed throughout the event venue to help your business garner as much attention as possible.
Table and chairs: Sure, you have an enticing booth that compels guests to check you out at an event... but is your exhibit welcoming and inviting enough for them to stay? If not, renting a table and some chairs can be the perfect solution. Place them strategically inside or outside of your trade show displays (with a customized tablecloth that touts your business logo, of course) to encourage your visitors to sit and discuss what your company has to offer.
Traffic building booth: Did you know that there is an entire industry dedicated to helping business' drive traffic to their booths and stands? From simulated golf driving ranges to money booths, these vendors have a wide range of options you can use to accessorize your trade show displays and generate event buzz amongst the crowd for optimal visitor traffic.
Flat screens and monitors: With so many businesses relying heavily on paper marketing materials to inform and entice the crowd, it's important for companies to up the technology ante in an effort to stand out. A great way to incorporate cutting-edge innovation is to use flat screens and monitors within the booth. Stream videos, run recorded product demonstrations or even offer interactive clips to help draw in (and keep!) the crowd at your exhibit. Love the idea but don't want to incur the hefty expense of purchasing these items? No worries - these exhibit accessories can be rented for each event to keep costs down to a minimum.
Implementing any (or all) of these accessorizing strategies can help your exhibit effectively grab the eye of the wandering crowd and ensure that your business stands head and shoulders above the competition for favorable return on investment.

Visualizing The Retail Experience

By

Expert Author Dan Finkelstein
Visualization is an important tool used by many ranging from Olympic level athletes to CEOs of large corporations. Visualization works by seeing yourself in a desired outcome, situation, or place. Once a mental image has been created focus is then spent on attaining the desired result. The overall idea is that by focus on achieving this desired result you'll actually be able to attain it.
Does visualization actually work? Well, many would say it depends on who is asked but there is also something to be said for being positive and maintaining focus on ways of achieving your goals. Even having a clear set of goals is not only a great motivator, but also increases your chances of success.
Visualization is often credited by many big stars in Hollywood as one of their powerful keys to success or at least a large contributing factor to helping them find their big breakthrough. Most people do this somewhat instinctually but not as much of a grandiose scale. Often times we envision our day to day tasks or before we make purchases. Having this knowledge in mind, retailers can better plan knowing how their clients will shop.
Many clients visiting a clothing store will seek items they think will make them look or feel good. The next step is taking these items from the rack and bringing them to the dressing room to see how they fit. The client has gone into the dressing room with a picture or "visualization" in their mind of how the clothing will look. There are a few ways to ensure that this process caters to the customer, and the mental image becomes a reality.
Dressing rooms should always be kept clean and organized. Additionally they should be well lit and have good sized mirrors. This helps take the customer from what they were picturing in their mind to what they are actually wearing in the dressing room. These factors help the customer see themselves in a favorable light, and helps greatly with achieving the sale.
Whether you are building an empire or simply planning out your day, you've probably started with some type of conscious or unconscious vision of how the desired outcome will look. Knowing that this is how the mind works, you can better understand clients and how they shop. Help cater to their needs by understanding the way they think and what they are expecting in a retail experience.

Question: Are there any special considerations when designing an Outdoor Display?
Answer: Absolutely yes. This is a pretty broad question in the way it's stated, but let me give you some pointers on a couple different displays that would be used out-of-doors.
Signs, large signs, main I.D. signs for businesses, billboards would be one broad category. So what considerations would we give when giving you advice on these types of signs?
First, durability is a concern, as you don't want to replace a sign real soon, as these types of signs can easily cost $10K to $100K and more. You'll need to select a company with a good reputation bolstered by some good testimonials. If it's a local firm, people that you can call, or even go look at their signs.
The materials are important. If it's an internally illuminated sign, what is the cabinet made of? Aluminum? Good choice, but expensive. Galvanized steel wrapping an angle iron frame is probably currently the most popular as the cost is lower than aluminum. It is also a durable material. We approve!
For the face, you can use an impact resistant acrylic, either back-sprayed with a special paint, or decorated with digitally printed translucent graphics, which is becoming more and more popular with many shops who don't want to have to mess with an EPA-approved spray booth and all the governmental requirements that go with the less expensive method.
However, I personally would recommend polycarbonate plastic faces that go by several brand names and come on rolls - usually around 76" and 100" or thereabouts, depending on the manufacturer. Polycarbonate plastic is virtually unbreakable, and is the same material "bulletproof" glass and airliner windshield "glass" is made from. We approve!
Of course, there are graphical considerations as well. Face it, you might hire me personally to write a decent marketing piece, a brochure, or come up with some good verbiage for your sign, but you don't want me designing your sign, because, well, I suck at it! So whomever you retain to build your main ID sign should have a competent or better graphic designer on staff.
However, do not let the graphic designer have overall control of the way the sign will look. They're great for making signs attractive, but they're rarely good marketers, and the message may get lost in the design.
When you are having your main ID sign designed, you need to look at the location where the sign goes. Is it on a street where the speed limit is 35 mph, or fronting an interstate highway where traffic whizzes by at 75 mph. Either way, your traffic has just enough time to glance at your sign, so make your info brief and to the point.
If you're not a major brand company, say your company is Joe's Carpet Cleaning, you may want to have a graphic of a person cleaning a carpet, "Joe's Carpet Cleaning," and JoesCarpetCleaning.com." More than that will be more than people have time to read.
Phone numbers are a pet peeve of mine on main ID signs. Numbers are hard to remember. Websites are not. Here's a test. Do you remember 534-2366 or JoesCarpetCleaning.com more easily? Most people remember the latter more easily. You can always go to the site and find the phone number.
So now you can purchase your main ID sign with confidence. A good company. Quality Materials. Good references. A good design department. And a sign that's easy to read. Your business should have a good shot at success if you're any good at all!
Another type of outdoor display sign that we are all familiar with is the billboard. Billboard signs are typically about 48' x 16' in our area, and most are owned by large firms that specialize in building the large structures, then renting out the space on these giant ads.
A billboard is similar, though, in design, if you want your advertising to be successful. Most billboards have about a 5 second read time at best. Again, less is more when it comes to these signs. A succinct message like "Lose 40 lbs by May" and a website "Lose40lbsbyMay.com, and here, maybe a toll free number. Keep it simple, and if you have something people want, they'll go to your website or call. These signs can be an amazing generator of business if they're done right.

Many A frame signs are used on the pavement, outside of a shop as an advertisement to draw potential customers inside. It is the perfect marketing tool for companies to broadcast their best deals to the footfall outside and bring them in store.
Due to the advent of low-cost digital print, A-Boards with poster frames are gradually taking over from fixed message pavement signs. This article focuses on the type with the changeable graphics facility.
A Boards with a very simple design to enable posters to be inserted, have two snap frames mounted back to back onto a folding stand which opens up into an A shape; hence the name A board. The snap frames have four snapping profiles around the edge of the frame which open to allow a poster to be inserted and close to secure the graphic.
Getting the right A board
As there are different models and styles of pavement signs and A-Boards for sale you need to consider which is going to complement your business best. If your company is a modern hair dressers then a stylish aluminum A frame might be what you are after; however if you're a farm shop then a rustic wooden A Board with a built in chalk board would most likely suit your companies theme.
You also need to take your immediate environment into consideration. If you're aiming to display your A Board on a high street then a standard A-frame would suffice. However if you're aiming to display it next to a busy road or car park then a water based pavement sign may be what you need; the extra weight will prevent it from being knocked over from the wind generated by passing cars.
Before purchasing your sign board, think what you want to achieve. Do you want to display printed media or do you want quality hand written signs for a personal touch; or maybe you want both?
If you simply want to write on your A Board with traditional chalk then your choice is simple, a chalk wooden A board will suffice. If you do wish to write with chalk but display your sign outside, then try waterproof but non-permanent chalk pens. Pens like this won't fade in the sun and are water-resistant but can be removed with household products such as degreasers.
If you wish to display printed media as well as hand written signs then there's an answer for that too. With a snap frame A board the poster is inserted into the snap frame behind the poster protectors which come with the product. You can also purchase large chalk cards which insert into the frame in the same way. You can write and draw on these chalk cards with chalk pens (similar to what professional sign writers use for example in pubs). TIP: Create your sign on a flat surface, allow to dry and then insert into the A frame. Remember to keep your advertisements personal to your company as well as showing your best offers; customers like a company to have a personality.
Many styles and models are produced which suit all budgets going from cheap A boards to more premium water based pavement signs. In all instances, little or no assembly is required, as they come preassembled or "flat packed".
Whether you're interested in cheap A Boards for sale, wooden chalk A Boards or budget sandwich boards, Green Magic has them all. Retail Success in Store www.DMSRetail.com How to Reach the Maximum Potential of Your Stores in 180 Days or Less
Expert Author Ankan Bose
Providing effective and timely customer service is critical for any industry and the same holds true for the retail industry as well. Since, without effective and timely customer services a business is sure to lose a lot of customers.
So why do you need customer services that are efficient in handling customer queries?
To begin with, let's just say that you have just bought a product from one of the major retail outlets and later on have some issues with the product, and you visit the store to get a replacement. Now, the outlet has two options:
· They listen to your query and provide a solution.
· They come up with excuses and refuse to replace your product.
As you can see, that the first option is pretty effective in retaining you as a customer; whereas the second option will leave you disappointed and it is unlikely that you would ever want to visit that store again. That's the reason why the retail industry needs to have excellent customer services in place to maintain its position and reputation in the market.
Now, coming back to the main question, "How to provide excellent customer service in the retail industry?"
There are a few essential points to keep in mind here. Let's look at some of the more important ones...
# Training the In-store demonstrators or customer care associates
It is the most important point. Since, they are the ones who are going to deal with customers in the first place. Therefore, it becomes highly important that they are able to address any questions that the customers' might have and provide them with an answer.
Also, not every customer is knowledgeable enough and often at times turns to these customer care associates to help them choose a product and come with a final decision while buying a product.
# Grievance desk
At times, the customers might end up being misguided or mistreated by the in-store associates. That is why there should always be a grievance desk, where the customer can go and register his/her issues. Doing so, sends out a message that the store in question cares for its customers and they are more than willing to help, should an issue crop up.
# Listing phone numbers and other details of the higher-ups
Listing the phone numbers and other details such as official email ID's etc. of the higher-ups in the store can prove to be a good step in providing effective customer services in the retail industry. This becomes important as the customer needs to know whom to contact in case his issues remain unresolved or he has some suggestions or complaints regarding either the products or the staff.
The retail industry is a very competitive industry. And over the years, it has become clear that the outlets that generate the maximum sales are the ones that are able to provide a positive overall experience to the customers'. Having the latest products or stuff that is in vogue definitely helps in generating sales. But in the end, it is the level of customer care that the store has decides whether the customer returns back to the store in the future or not.

A Guide to Choosing the Right Promotional Merchandise

Your Personal Prophecy YourPersonalProphecy.com Bishop E.Bernard Jordan has Your Free Personal Prophecy
PVC Key chain www.pvcgifts-wb.com OEM custom silicone key chains, wholesale price, fast delivery!
What does this mean? Improved brand familiarity, plenty of repeat custom and more business for you.
Why you need it:
  • Advertising - a promotional pen, shirt or calendar is a business card with a purpose. Choose the right merchandise and you could have thousands of potential customers hanging your name, web domain and slogan on their wall, drinking their morning coffee from it - even wearing it to bed!

  • Brand reinforcement - unlike a newspaper ad or pop up, your logo on a pen will be seen time and time again - whenever you take a number, sign a cheque, fill in a survey, or see your child doing their homework - as well as having a fantastic pass-along rate. If your company pen makes its way into the homes and businesses of your potential customers, your name will soon be imprinted on more than just stationary!

  • Strengthen business/customer relations - corporate merchandise can make a fantastic 'thank you' gift to your existing clientele, encouraging customer loyalty and referrals.

  • Draw attention - original and useful corporate giveaways can create a real buzz around your stand at a trade show or expo.
Which merchandise is best?
It's important to choose promotional merchandise which is unique, appropriate to your line of business and useful to the customer. For example, an accountancy firm might choose to brand a calculator, an IT company may opt for a USB stick and a grocery store may like to invest in some quality cotton bags, which people will reuse and in doing so will advertise your brand to even more potential customers.
You might also like to think about where your merchandise will be used to improve your chances of securing business. If you're a stationary company, a headed notepad is a great idea because whenever your client makes a note to stock up on files/staples/notepads(!), your name will serve as a nice reminder at just the right time.
Think about your clientele. If your market is at the higher-end of the spectrum, you might want to think about branding more expensive items such as high-quality clothing. One effective method of raising your own image is to add your logo to an already branded item - for example, a Waterman pen or Regatta jacket. You might like to combine your order - a cheaper item in bulk for distribution to the masses and several dozen luxury items for those extra special customers.
There's no doubting the effectiveness of promotional pens for that in-bulk corporate giveaway. Although inexpensive, these are a fantastic way of ensuring your name gets plenty of airing in public. With just enough room to include your important message and contact details, this is a business card which keeps on working (well, until the ink runs out anyway).
The quality of your merchandise is an important consideration as it will reflect the quality of your own products. Get it wrong and buy cheap products which break or fade easily and this may have negative connotations for your brand.
Indeed, your merchandise will reflect a message of what your company is all about, so don't be frightened of being creative or original in your approach. Try to choose an item which people will not only use, but something they will appreciate. A recent brand of baby milk powder sent a high-quality teddy to every customer that called their helpline. By choosing a gift which would appeal to babies, not only will the brand be reinforced each time a parent hunts for it or attempts to prize it from their child for a wash, it also reflects that the company cares - not just about their custom, but also about the happiness of their baby.
The right corporate merchandise reflects so much of what you do - but it also sends the message that you are willing to give a little in return for customer loyalty and in the hope of new business. From key fobs and lighters to jackets and keepsakes, make the right choice and your promotional merchandise could keep giving back for years to come.
K Lam works with customers to promote their business through the use of promotional merchandise available from Complete Merchandise. How To Effectively Use The Roll Up Or Pull Up Banners?

Business in Asia aci-institute.com ACI Grows Your Business for Asian Markets based on Consumer Insights.
During Special Events:
It is always better to use the roll up or pull up banners during the busy season. This is because during such times giving individual attention is not possible. With these banners it is possible to let the prospects know what your products are about and how to get the best out of them. By outlining the important feature of the items you are selling it is possible to keep the audience interested inspite of the rush.
Avoid Overuse:
The roll up banners is a powerful medium to showcase your products. It is important to avoid using them unnecessary. When these advertising banners get used on a regular basis they do more harm compared to good. These are so attractive that the focus gets shifted from the actual item which is being sold. This is not something the manufacturers would ultimately like. So it is necessary to decide when the time is ripe to let the power of pull up banners unleash.
Convey the Right Messages:
Instead of using marketing messages which seem like direct selling propositions it is ideal to use subtle lines which are both ingenious and humorous. While direct marketing lines may turn off many customers, interesting comments can work wonders and bring prospects to the store. Clever lines have a propensity to stay in the minds of people and get them revved up to buy the product.
Banners inside stores:
Roll up banner or pull up banners are also used inside the shops to inform the people about various items inside the stores. In other words these extremely useful banners can be employed to give clarification to the various customers who enter. They are like a beacon amidst the overflowing stocks which provide the exact information which the shoppers are looking for and guide them through.
Save Manpower:
With the clever use of the pull up banners, it is possible to do away with extra staff. Now you do not need to employ people for explaining things to the customers or answering their often asked queries. It can be effectively done with the help of the informative displays which clears all the doubts and indicate towards the item one is looking for.
Point towards Sales:
Roll up banners can give a direct pointer towards where the sale is effective inside the store. As a result the customers can simply come inside the shop and find where the good bargains are available. So without wasting any time they can simply go and buy the products they wish for without dallying anywhere else. A good strategist places certain complementary items near the place where the discounts are going on, so that they are sold simply because of their advantageous position.
Give Directions Towards your Store:
The pull up banners has a multipurpose use. They can be used both inside the shops and the outdoors with equal ease. So use these tools to give directions to the prospects towards your store by placing them nearby your complex.
I am on behalf of Easydisplay.co.uk. It is one of the best companies in manufacturing of Roller Banners and Pop Up Displays. I often write for the same.
