A business slogan (or tagline, as others would call it) is a phrase, a sentence or short statement usually found next to the company name; slogans help build and shape the business' character and identity as it concisely advertises a positive image about the business. Slogans are consistently shown with the business name.
Perhaps you've seen several slogans that really got your attention to the point of you memorizing them. Say, McDonald's' I'm Lovin' It! Nike's "Just Do It and Adidas' "Impossible is Nothing" - these are some of the slogans that I've memorized and seen almost anywhere I go. Slogans are distinctive to a specific brand, and once people have established an association with that slogan, it would be next to impossible that they don't recognize your company name too.
So our goal here is create a slogan that would stick to people's minds; the question is how? First you need to ensure that your company slogan has certain characteristics, which will help make it recognizable.
1. Rhythm and Rhyme. Most slogans that have penetrated people's minds, whether seen, read or heard are those which are catchy and appealing; in other words, they have rhythm and rhyme. Slogans that are pleasing to the ears when heard or to the mouth when spoken are usually the ones that people remember. But if you wish to make more memorable, you can turn it into a jingle. Studies have shown that people tend to remember words more often when they are sung rather than spoken or read.
2. Keep it simple and short.Have you noticed how longer slogans make it a lot confusing to associate it with the company? Slogans need to be simple and as much as possible, short. The longer your slogan is, the more forgettable it is likely to become. Try to limit your slogan to a simple short sentence or a phrase.
3. Make sure to highlight the key area of the company. Slogans have the task of creating the initial impression to prospective clients; therefore, it is important that your company's slogan has its way of incorporating the key area of your business to it. Take a look at Miller Lite's slogan, "Great taste, less filling." The message that it tries to convey to whoever reads the slogan has clearly shown the company's key area.
4. Have the company's commitment explained.Another job of your company slogan is to differentiate your company from the other competitors. You can have your slogan explain your company's dedication to its customers, or guarantee them with quality service - and make sure your company stays committed to what your slogan speaks of. Avis' slogan is one among the catchy and honest slogans: "We're number two, so we try harder".
5. Honesty is important.As much as you want your slogan to be appealing to the people, it is vital that your company slogan truthfully mirrors the business. Be careful not to get too carried away and exaggerate your slogan. Avoid saying your company is the best or the number one, as these statements usually turn the customers off.
Slogans are a must for every company; they help acquaint people what the company is about. Similarly, companies with existing websites need slogans to advertise what their website is about. Self-explaining slogans are equally necessary unless your company has already established its name and is well-known to many.
