Niche is what you do. Target market is who you do it to. Simply put that's the difference between the two. As a local small business, you have a chance through your close connection and added flexibility to really be able to serve a specific target market that appreciates your focused niche.
Big companies often overlook a lot of things when it comes to local population needs. This is where you can find your niche, from the small things that big companies are not adjusting to. As a small business owner, you want to keep thinking of ways you can improve your products and services and you have to stay flexible to keep up with consumer behavior. Find your niche and concentrate on it because this will separate you from the rest. Be adept in watching market trends because this will help improve your niche, give your customers more than what they are already getting from others. This may come in as simple as providing awesome customer service.
Concentrating on your niche does not mean that you will be left out by other businesses. If you focus on this and come up with the right strategy, you will be attracting the right customers and will get the returns that you deserve. Your interactions and profit will be richer from it!
Things that you can do to make your niche work for you
Write articles - in any kind of business today, writing articles is a necessity because they just work - they are stellar at giving connections a chance to sample your character and competence. Like your business, give your readers something helpful and something that they will remember, rather than product selling. If you create professional articles, your readers will recognize your brand and put you in a position where you are an expert in your niche. Do it regularly, like every month, twice a month, once a week, whichever you are more comfortable with. Just make sure to give your readers the highest quality possible. Send it out through email, fax, or post it on your website. This is one way of building your credibility.
Get your articles posted on sites or publications for free. Choose reputable and quality article marketing sites, volunteer to be a guest blogger or find publications to syndicate your post. Choose a magazine or site where your target market can read them. Doing this will gain you possible customers and more brand exposure. Don't forget to include where they can contact you.
Join professional committees - if there are committees that are related to your business, join them and be part of the top members. This will give you more credibility and exposure. People will recognize you and will be interested in what you are offering. If there are different committees in your area that are related to your business, attend meetings and see where your business will get the most benefit.
Host webinars - make use of the technology available to you. You can reach out to your customers by hosting a web-based seminar. It's like a conference where you are the speaker and you have your customers, only this eliminates the need to travel from town to town. If you do a great job, for sure your audience will get bigger and bigger.
Make use of e-mail newsletters - cut down on cost by making use of email services. This is a cost-effective way to spread news about your business. Create e-newsletters and send one to your customers every month.
Update them on the latest happenings in your business. If you have something new coming for them, provide a teaser in your newsletter.
Your own website - it is easy to start a website, the challenge is to make it work for you. Don't give your visitors a hard time understanding where and how to access the information they need. If they find a link to your website and click through, they might not stay long if they don't understand how to navigate around your site. Make articles accessible and your contact details easy to find. Include a way to attract them to sign up for your newsletter.
Properly plan out what you want to be known for so your target market knows, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that you are speaking to them and you understand them. Focus on your niche and put your efforts into always giving people what they are not getting from bigger companies. Make them feel the benefits of using your products or service and you will gain loyal customers.

Trade Show Booth Rental Versus Ones You Own

The booths that businesses use in trade show booth exhibits play a big role in generating human traffic. This is due to the fact that it is what people will first see the moment they lay their eyes on your stall. It is the primary reason why everything is being done in order to make it enticing. It has to attract the people so that the front liners can start an interaction and hopefully, can make a sale. There are two options on how you can obtain them; either you will rent or you will buy your own. Each has its own up and downsides. This article will give you insights in order to make an appropriate decision.
• Assess your financial and human resources. When you make an inventory of your resources, you should look for both the financial and human assets. This is because you will need these two regardless of the option that you will settle on. Naturally, if you were to buy a booth, you will need more money as you need to purchase the needed materials. Also, unless you have decided to do it all by yourself, you would have to pay the services of the people you will hire to do the booth. Should you consider the other alternative, you would only have to ensure that you are transacting with a legit, pay and you're good to go without a sweat.
• What are your needs? The looks of the booth is of paramount importance. However, there are more things to think of just like your needs. Your mark should be incorporated in the booth. Is it something that the rental companies can give you? If you were to buy, can you find someone who has enough skills to come up with a booth that will live up to your expectations? If you do, can you agree on the highest price that you can afford? What will be the arrangements should you decide or rent? These are just some questions that you ought to answer.
• Consider your short and long-term goals. A trade show booth rental is suitable on one-time engagement. But supposing time comes when you have to attend several trade shows in a single year, would you be able to rent out two at the very least? Can you save more should you purchase them? The answers to such questions would be determined by short and long-term goals. Depending on the list of your objectives, you will have inklings on ho to weight them together with the advantages of renting and purchasing. For all you know, you may have advantages on one that you can't have with the other.
• Weigh in all the necessary costs and possible profits after it was disposed if you will buy one. If you will buy your own booth, of course, there will be purchasing cost that you have to think of. Next would be transportation costs, maintenance and storage fees. In renting the booths, you will not have much of it. However, during idle time, you can always have your booths rented out by other firms or put them into the market should you decide you will have no more use of them. These options you cannot have with renting.
• Look at your timetable and the calendar. Purchasing a booth takes more time than renting out. This is because you will need more time making it than looking for a merchant which would sell you one. Unlike the renting out alternative, you can rest a little after you have a found a rental firm. All you need is to give your specifications to them and you will be good to go. They will be handling the maintenance and the storing. You can devote your time to more important things like planning on your marketing strategy and lead management. Renting can be a better option if you are running out of time.
• Customization. Customization is very important in marketing your products and this ought to be manifested in exhibit rentals too. You can be more confident in this matter when you purchase your own although rental firms can offer this option too. However, you may be charged with higher rates.
The decision on whether to rent out or purchase your own booth is yours to be made. By giving it a good thought, you will soon come up with a right decision.

Ever noticed how often people talk about client relationships or customer service? You guessed it, all the time. It seems there is always a new term cropping up to describe how we connect to customers. I'm sure you use your own term as well. We're encouraged to discontinue traditional broadcasting and push marketing to become agents in the world of viral videos, technology and new media. Seriously, who can keep up? All we really want is a group of people who love what we do and how we do it, sort of our very own brand evangelists. Sounds good, huh?
Here's the age-old question that's been building businesses since business building began: Are you looking for more customers?
Let me be clear. I don't mean more traffic in your store front or more page views on your website. I'm talking about real live customers who keep coming back for more. I'm not talking about the people who pay attention to you. I'm talking about the people who pay you and do so graciously. They pay for your product or service, see the value in it and proceed to tell everyone they know about you. Once again, sounds good! Who wouldn't want more customers like that?
What builds a successful, thriving business is a community of loyal, engaged, participating and paying customers-real people who want to be part of what we do. If that's your goal, check out my 7 strategies to create an environment of raving fans and loyal customers.
1. Create A Sense Of Community. People like being in the company of others who are like-minded. People don't stay where they aren't valued. Create value in your online and offline environment so that people recognize how important they are to your business everywhere they look. Everyone wants to belong to a group where they feel accepted and valued. Everyone likes to feel important. When people feel valued and comfortable, they connect and usually buy.
2. Give Your Customers Incentives. No matter what the purchase is, everyone likes to feel as though they got the best deal possible. Create a WOW factor with every offer. Pack in value and relevant content that is engaging to any living human being who reads it. Don't sell your products and services. Educate your prospects on how and why to buy them. If you demonstrate to them how it will make their lives or work easier, simpler or more productive you're closer to getting them to invest. Offer statements that make your prospects self qualify. The goal is to make the customer say: "Yes I definitely need that. How do I sign up?"
3. Build Authentic Relationships. I hate automated customer service lines. I consider such an impersonal method of customer service as simply annoying. I want a real person on the other end of the phone to greet me. I'd be willing to bet, so do your customers. When you are speaking to your customers over the phone, listen more than you talk. Learn more than you teach. Research like Google Analytics and other data might tell you what customers are doing, but it won't tell you why. One thing for sure, your customers will tell you exactly what they're thinking if you simply ask for their feedback. I remember when I first started out in media sales, it was tough. I was green and uncertain about my effectiveness. One technique I mastered was getting my customers to grade me. I'd simply ask, "So what grade would you give me and why?" That simple question taught me that our customers are brilliant about showing us what they love, hate and what makes them change their mind. In the process, I built relationships and learned a lot.
4. Become A Resource. Supply relevant, intelligent and timely information that will position you as a resource and expert. If you're the first to offer your customers insight on breaking news in your industry as well as theirs, you've placed yourself a step above the crowd. They give and get more referrals. The folks, who know everyone and are seemingly known by everyone, are usually the ones who get the best opportunities first. Simply put, they get more perks. Being knowledgeable about a little bit of everything, gives you an edge.
5. Provide An Experience Based On Customer Input. Invite your customers to suggest, design and perhaps lead new initiatives or promotions. It's funny how engaged customers become when they are given the opportunity to design a new logo or mascot or write a jingle for a commercial. Don't be afraid to let the customers drive the train. Allow them to teach, learn and play along with others who love your brand. Spoil your customers by making them a part of an experience they will never forget. Customers are people who help build our businesses.
6. Honor and Celebrate Your Brand Ambassadors. Brand Ambassadors are the people who refer other business to you and introduce you to their friends and so on. Be sure to show and tell your ambassadors why you value their business by pointing out the core values you share. Create a customer of the month promotion. Find a way to show your appreciation for those who are loyal and help you along. Be unforgettable. Show gratitude. Be more generous than they ever expected you to be. Trust me, the law of attraction will work in your favor on this one. You'll find that you'll attract customers who reflect those attributes right back.
7. Become A Brand Ambassador. How many clichés are there for this one? I'll just use one. How about, "you scratch my back, and I'll scratch yours." The major principle here is simply the golden rule; doing unto others as you would have them do unto you. Becoming a brand ambassador for your customers will result in a win-win situation for you and them. If you are sending your customers, customers and they are doing the same, everyone wins.
All of the above strategies, point to one central them about what attracts and keeps customers: caring about them. Customers are the people who fuel our growth as business owners. They have the power along with their loyalty to help or harm you. Loyalty is about relationship. No other business asset is more powerful than customer loyalty. Having fans is cool. Having raving fans is much better.

When researching how to make a cartoon on the computer, one will quickly notice there is quite a reputation around skeletal animation and vector model design. There's a good reason for its being so highly praised, and contrary to popular belief, it's very easy to use.
The best tool for designing your vectors, hands down, is Flash. Anyone who's used to any image editing program will instantly feel at home with Flash's layout, and much of its thought processes. It's best to use CS5, as earlier CS releases tend to be a tad slow on average computers.
You'll notice almost instantly how easy it is to create stylistic lines and fills with Flash, drawing lines, snapping them together and bending the lines into curves. With any artistic talent, this process can lead to very crisp, beautiful cell models that any animation studio would be proud of.
Artistically-minded animators will also find that Flash is great for importing sketched models of characters, and rotoscoping them directly into Flash itself. To do this, simply import an image to the layer that the project has by default. Create a new layer over it, and make a white rectangle over the image. Set its color opacity to about 60% (though it may vary depending on the heaviness of the sketch's pencil work). Make one more layer above this, and then lock the two layers below. Begin following your sketch with the line and pen tools, and in moments, you have a beautiful cell model that's true to your original sketch.
Now, be sure to convert all of the moving pars of your model into distinct symbols (movie clips) by right-clicking on them and selecting "convert to symbol". Remove any rotoscoping layers and imported images at this point. Now, it's a good idea to distribute your moving parts to their own layers, stacked top to bottom by the order they overlap. Group your parts by what they belong to, so that all parts of an arm, for example, are in one single layer. Upon doing this, you're ready to animate your model.
Now, the wonderful thing with Flash since version CS4 is, you don't need another program in order to use skeletal animation on your model. Skeletal animation is also called "bone animation" or "inverse kinematics". Flash refers to this as bones.
When ready to animate, for example, the arm, select the bone tool. From the shoulder, drag a bone to just past the elbow. From this joint, drag another to just past the wrist. Now, selecting the pointer tool, you will find that dragging on different parts of the arm will result in the arm bending in the same way that a real arm would move. Well, you will notice it bends to extents that your arm cannot. To solve this, click on one of the bones, and in properties, simply play with the restrictions until you have it to where it seems proper for your character.
Now, once you've given your character all of his moving parts in this manner, you want to make an animation of them moving. This is very easy to do. Copy the existing frame in your timeline, and decide how many frames in length the motion should take. Select the empty frame for that distance, and paste the frame there. The timeline between the frames will fill out with just a long stretch of the original frame at this point.
In the final frame, move the parts of your model to where they should be once the motion is completed. Now, select all of the frames, and right click on the selection. You can create a classic tween, or a motion tween; Animators have had mixed results in comparing which of these works better, so it's best to try both, and see which one works best for you.
Voila, you've mastered vector model creation, and advanced skeletal animation, and you did it all with one program, in less than two hours!
This is a distinctly faster, and more streamlined method of design and animation than the classic frame-by-frame method that has been used since the birth of the art form. However, in being distinctly different from classic animation, it also looks very different. It takes a skilled animator and designer to not make skeletal animation look "puppety" or robotic. It lacks the organic feel that classic animation forms possess. However, when you look at how much time is saved with this animation style, and if you're willing to practice with it, the tradeoff is most often well worth it.
One last precaution, though, for those who really find this Flash animation method to be promising: don't design your backgrounds in Flash unless you want a vector look to them. Being vectors, Flash cannot provide the painted, detailed types of backgrounds most quality animation forms integrate.

Learn to Draw Cartoons: Keep It Simple

Drawing is a wonderful hobby, and drawing cartoons can be a fun hobby for anyone, at any age! You can draw cartoons anywhere - on the bus, in the subway, waiting at the airport, sitting in the doctor's office. It's great to carry a small sketchbook with you, but you can also draw cartoons on just about any scrap of paper you find. There's no need to start a "masterpiece." You can just get out your favorite pencil and begin.
Learning to draw cartoons, like any other art, is all about doing. Yes, you need some basic instruction to get started, but you have to apply those instructions by practicing constantly. You may have noticed that people who love to draw are constantly drawing! They don't just think about it, dream about it, talk about it, or wish they could do it. They spend time at it every day - very often they will grab a pencil and a piece of paper anytime their hands are not busy with something else.
When you learn to draw cartoons, the whole world becomes your model. Cartoons are based on real life. A good cartoon will highlight or exaggerate some aspect of every day life that we can all recognize and relate to, bringing out the humor beneath the surface. If you find yourself chuckling over ordinary things, or seeing the hidden joke that no one else "gets," you might make a very good cartoonist. Learning to draw cartoons gives you the tools to open up that world of hidden humor for others, helping them to see the ridiculous and the unexpected.
Learning to draw cartoons can be a great personal outlet. Some people like to keep a journal, or write poetry, or compose songs; maybe your thing will be drawing cartoons, developing characters of your own that become unique and familiar friends. If you would like to share your art with other people there are so many great ways to do that nowadays. It's fairly easy to set up your own website or blog where you can post your drawings; there are even special WordPress themes for posting cartoons. You can begin with a service that doesn't cost anything.
You can also scan your drawings into a computer and compile them into a digital book that can be shared with anyone who has a smart phone, a digital reader or tablet computer. There are so many ways to share your art that don't cost anything. If you find that many people enjoy your drawings, or you get lots of comments on your skill, then you can explore other possibilities for getting them published.

The 3D Adventure

The exciting adventure into a magical world with multiple dimensions where your imagination is allowed to run wild is the world of 3D animation. Take a swim in the deep blue sea exploding with tropical, colourful fish that you can almost touch and feel with your fingers. Walk through a fierce blizzard where you can feel the icy wind blowing and touch the magical snowflakes with your fingers. Trek through the Sahara Dessert whilst you can see the hot sand blowing on your face, watch the camels as if they were real life and enjoy the experience almost as if you were there now.
That is why skilled 3D animators are the most highly sought-after artists in the world of 3D. The main reason they are in demand, is that producing believable and entertaining animation requires a lot of skill and practice.
A 3D animator needs to be a type of actor so he can act out each move in sequence. It is a complicated set of skills and knowledge which is acquired through a lot of work and practice. This is usually achieved through years of studying acting and how objects move etc...
Keen observation may be the most important skill to develop as an animator. Observe life around you [such as the fish in the ocean] and the way that objects move. Draw pictures, take notes, and try to attach a meaning to what you observe. Don't study just animation. Try to study movies attend plays and even read comic books to understand how poses and movement create moods and communicate messages without using words. New animators would benefit from the old masters of 20th century animation - Walt Disney, Art Babbitt, Grim Natwick, and Ken Anderson. The principles used to bring characters like Mickey Mouse and Bugs Bunny to life are still as relevant today as they were back then. Indeed, the first place a new 3D animator should look is to the old animation manuals of 2D artists.
The novice 3D animator will be wise to focus on basic objects first: how to make a ball move from one place to another, and how to make it bounce. Later, as you explore character animation, you'll need to understand what determines a good walk and how to cut down on "float," a common problem for new animators where the character moves as if underwater.
Most importantly, animators must practice their craft repeatedly. Like modelling, animation requires time and patience. Even experienced animators may create many test movies before getting a good final result. A good animator can make an average model come to life, whilst even the best models can be made to look amateurish by a poor animator. Persistence generates success, and like all crafts, is the key to creating the ultimate success..
Allow yourself to be immersed into an amazing world where every creature and object lacking dimensions is transformed into real life.
Do you want to enjoy the adventure and thrill of 3D without going to the theatre?
The thought of objects and people in 3D is exciting not to mention just like reality.
It would be so much better than seeing everything flat.

Many of you broke into a sweat after reading the title, didn't you? Many small business owners don't have a marketing plan because they believe it's too hard, too time consuming, or they just don't know where to start.
Creating a good marketing plan doesn't have to be overwhelming, or costly, but it will save you time and help you achieve your goals much more easily than you ever believed possible.
Start small, your plan can grow as your business and profits grow. In fact, without some sort of plan in place, it will be extremely difficult for your profits to grow. Don't fall into the trap we sometimes set for ourselves by having our marketing plan in 'mind'. You do need to memorialize it in some form so that you will be accountable to making it happen. And once you decide what you'll want to include in the plan, then you need to set it up on some sort of a calendar so that you'll be sure to implement it and track your results.
Start by identifying:
• Who is your ideal client?
• What do I have to spend?
• Where can I reach my ideal client?
Establish your ideal client profile by looking at your current clients and who can afford to buy your product or service? Who on your current client list seem to be the best fit for you and our expertise? What industry are those clients in, or what types of services to you enjoy doing for them the most?
Once you understand who that client is and what products or services you can and should be providing them, then identify the best ways to reach them. Where do they hang out? What industry associations or list serves do they belong to? What type of message will they respond to, in order to have their problems solved?
Next, consider your marketing budget. It should minimally be 10-15% of your yearly sales. Start simple, and make changes monthly or quarterly as you begin to see results. Be realistic and flexible. Having a budget will allow you to visualize and expand upon your program throughout the year.
The plan itself will have a number of options to consider. Here is a list of some marketing aspects to consider in your plan.
• Print advertising (including Yellow Pages)
• Direct Mail
• Email (include eZines and Blogs)
• Networking (Chamber participation/membership)
• Sponsorship
• Trade Shows
• Article Writing
• Speaking
• Referrals
• Social Media
While some of these items will have little to no cost, including them in your marketing plan will help you stay on track and implement each segment as needed. Don't just participate in 'free' marketing options, although it can be tempting, you just won't be able to reach the top level clientele that you should be looking for.
You need to participate in multiple mediums so that you will determine the best, most logical and cost effective way to reach your ideal prospect and client.
When putting together the actual marketing piece, remember to include a 'call to action'. It could be a coupon in a direct mail piece, or a 'free' offer at the end of a speaking engagement. Just make sure you have different calls to action in each piece so that tracking success will be a breeze.
Check in quarterly to see how each segment is performing and make adjustments as necessary throughout the year to make sure you are getting the biggest bang for your marketing buck! Try to give each marketing option at least 6-months to produce results. It can take up to 10-15 touches for a prospect to remember you and your offerings before they take the next step to connect with you. Don't give up too quickly or you could lose that next big opportunity to connect with the perfect client.

Your answer to this question should be "YES!" unless, of course, you are a celebrity or any other global personality who can afford an entire marketing team to manage your image and reputation.
We should all be taking charge in creating, establishing and managing our own personal brands online and offline. Once you have begun to establish yours, managing it can be a piece of cake.
If you are active online with blogs and social networks, managing your brand can be as simple as Googling yourself and using Google Alerts to stay updated on any new mentions or publications of your name, your websites, your blogs, your articles and more. When offline, managing your brand can be as easy as carefully reviewing your performance evaluations at work and/or seeking consistent feedback from family, friends, supervisors and other career stakeholders to make sure your personal communications are being effectively transmitted and correctly received.
As I continue to surf the net for new articles about or related to this topic, I have been amazed at the number of voices against these concepts.
Here are just some of the questions and comments I have come across from such voices:
1. "People are not brands, because people are not products."
2. "Who cares about your personal brand?"
3. "Personal branding is narcissistic."
4. "Are you so unsure of who you are that you must reaffirm yourself via internet tools?"
5. "Why is it so important to make sure your online image appears the way you want it to?"
While I respect and understand where each of these points is coming from, I must reinforce the importance of personal brand management in response to each one.
1. It is true that people are not products. However, often we choose one product over other similar products because of its brand (a.k.a. its unique and differentiating value) and how that value fulfills our need in a given situation. This holds true for people, as well. Each person has a unique and differentiating value, or personal brand, that fulfills an organization's need in a given situation better than other similar people.
2. We should all care about our personal brands because they combine our strengths, our personalities, our reputations, our values and our goals all into one communicable, unique and differentiating value that we bring to the table.
3. Personal branding isn't narcissistic unless taken to the extreme. Promoting your strengths and your unique and differentiating value to your career stakeholders is healthy and important for your own self-fulfillment and achievement in life. As more and more professionals brand themselves, it is essential that you establish your own brand in order to stand out in your job search and career development.
4. Keeping track of your online reputation with simple online tools does not make you less confident. The internet is a vast and ever-evolving platform on which it is much easier to miss "fires" threatening our personal brands and reputations. Therefore, we must fight fire with fire to stay on top of everything and protect our reputations and our investment.
5. Your online image is just a part of your overall image and personal brand. If you invest time, energy and even money into your own personal development and image offline, it makes sense that you will want your online image to match.
Personal branding is simply creating, establishing and communicating a unique and memorable value and reputation, and personal brand management is the consistent upkeep and maintenance of this value in the spheres in which you choose to exist and be active, both online and offline.
Brand managers establish and protect the value that your favorite chosen brands of products deliver, so be your own personal brand manager and protect all that you have to offer!
