Creativity is not something people equate with business, but it is a vital component to having a successful business. Yes, accounting and organizational skills are important, but when it comes to marketing your business, when it comes to creating products and services, even when it comes to keeping your customers happy, creativity is the key.
Many people believe they aren't creative but that's simply a misunderstanding. We are all creative. Every one of us. If we feel we aren't, it is simply because we have been told somewhere along the line that we weren't and we believed it. Often, we have been told to be practical, to keep our feet firmly planted on the ground. Any spark of creativity is extinguished in service of "taking care of ourselves and our families."
As business people, these thoughts can be a true hindrance. In order to move ahead, to keep ahead, we need to reawaken that spark of creativity and begin using it in our daily life. How is that done? The first part is knowing what creativity is. It is simply the ability to access our subconscious mind. Throughout our lives we have been feeding our subconscious mind information. Data, if you will. The subconscious loves to take that data and play with it, rearrange it in new and interesting ways.
We all have random thoughts that seem to swim by our awareness. We have learned to dismiss those random thoughts. Even if one seems interesting for a moment, we quickly move on to more important things, but these thoughts are the subconscious mind feeding us back that information in new forms and shapes. When we allow the subconscious mind to communicate with the conscious mind rather than ignoring those thoughts, we have what is called inspiration.
When you allow yourself to entertain those stray thoughts, even briefly, you are letting your subconscious mind know you are listening and it will feed you more and more ideas that seem to be coming out of nowhere. This is how we can reawaken our creativity, be responsible for it. Once we begin to be responsible for it, we will have ideas that we can use in our businesses to adjust the way we do thing in small ways or even huge ways. We will have ideas about how to promote products and services that are innovative. We will have ideas about how to interact with our prospects and customers in more effective ways.

Let's face it: Seeing is believing. While there are many people who will go out of their way to search for treasures at a flea market or yard sale, most people need a better visual on how an item can be an asset to them. Make your in-store displays work to their best advantage!
It all starts with placement of your display. Placing an item in your store window implies that it is a hot, trendy, new item. The way your storefront looks will be one of the main factors in drawing customers inside. You also give your customers an impression of the cost of your items, just by the quality of your window display.
After a person enters your store, you will want to continue to impress them. Using attractive in-store displays will put your products in their best light. Displays that are clean, shiny and not too cluttered help to focus the attention on the items that are being presented.
Most customers have a general item in mind when they are shopping, such as a jacket, a pair of pants, etc. The way you display an item will make other items more appealing, and the customer may feel compelled to purchase the entire ensemble. They will want to wear the item exactly the way it was displayed in the store. It may also open their mind to their own ideas, and they may wish to add additional items to make the outfit their own. Creating a display that shows how an item works with different colors or jewelry stirs the imagination, also.
Use every surface you have for your in-store display, as long as you don't overdo it. There are wonderful fixtures available to display items on your walls, but remember to leave plenty of space between items. You never want to give an impression of clutter. Your customers would like to be able to see the items, rather than have to search for them.
Use lighting and color to create a mood. Certain colors create a sophisticated look, while others are more playful. After you have the proper lighting and color for your store, then use lighting to showcase your displays. Also, pay close attention to the colors of the items you have on display. As you place your displays, make sure that the colors do not clash with a display that is close by.
Signage also plays a huge part. Handwritten signs look very tacky and unprofessional. Create fun signs by using different fonts and colors. Or, keep them simple and to the point. As long as the signs are clean, clear and undamaged, they will add definition to your in-store displays.
If you have items that are not selling very well, it might all be in the way they are being displayed. Try creating a different display, using different colors or fixtures. You may wish to take an item out of the package and create a display which shows the item in use.
And, lastly, you will want to display items that will promote impulse buying. Smaller items can be strategically placed and displayed throughout your store. These may be items that do not cost very much, but will do a lot to enhance the buyer's purchase. Clever labeling of these items can make these a "must-have" in order to make the purchase complete, and the customer will leave feeling satisfied.

Some logo designers even prefer to interview you with their set list of questions. If you'd prefer to know what the questions are in advance so that you have time to think about them, let the designer know so that they can accommodate you.
