Your logo is the first bite of your brand, make it a great one!
A logo represents your company to your customers. It is the first visual image that comes to mind when they think of your company and or its products. They are sometimes called a trademark, emblem, brand, logo type, symbol, identity mark, mark or insignia. There are 4 characteristics that you can find in any great logo design. Think of the products you buy everyday and the company logo that goes with them. Most of them will all have these characteristics.
1. A Great Logo is Recognizable and Distinctive
People need to be able to recognize a logo. A great logo must be distinct, easy to understand and leave a visual impression. The logo should be unique enough to avoid confusion with other companies' logos. The logo needs to symbolize the company it stands for so that consumers will associate it with the business each time they see it.
2. It is Usable Across Many Different Types of Media
A logo is used across many different platforms, from letterhead and business cards to websites and apparel. A good logo must be flexible enough to work in any situation/medium required. In order to work effectively, a logo should work well with color and in black and white. From a size standpoint, a logo should be simple enough to look good on a business card, yet intriguing enough to work on a large poster or even billboard. For ease and maximum usability, a logo should be in vector format.
3. It Has Timeless Core Elements
For most companies, a logo should stay with the business for a long period of time. Minor redesigns of a logo are tolerated and can even be beneficial for maintaining a modern and cutting edge image but the core elements of a logo should remain to maximize memorability. Well designed core logo elements should last unless or until a company changes it operational or industry focus.
4. It is Memorable
Your logo should make a statement about the purpose and goals of your company. It should be firmly ingrained in the consumers mind so that when think of your industry, the visual image of your logo comes to mind.
Creating a logo requires a lot of planning, time and thought. The effectiveness of logo marks are such a key part of company's image and the impression it makes with potential customers.
